Welcome to SV Burnt Toast! We're a sailing couple who left the desert behind to explore the world by sea, documenting our adventures and sharing our journey with fellow sailors and adventure seekers.
Our Story
As our tagline says, we're "long ways from desert days." We made the leap from landlocked life to living aboard our sailboat, embracing the freedom and challenges that come with a life at sea. SV Burnt Toast has become our home, our transportation, and our gateway to exploring new horizons.
Our Mission: To share authentic sailing experiences, connect with the cruising community, and inspire others to pursue their own adventures, whether on land or sea.
Burnt Toast
Burnt Toast is a 2008 Lagoon 420 owners version catamaran, and we're her fourth owners. She came out of the factory as a diesel (non-hybrid) version and has proven to be a sturdy and capable cruiser that has carried us safely through calm anchorages and challenging passages alike.
Shauna picked her name based on the Burnt Toast Theory—the idea that life's small inconveniences might actually be protecting us from something worse. The theory gained popularity through social media and was later explored in the book The Burnt Toast Theory by Isabella Robinson. The concept suggests that when you burn your toast in the morning and it delays you by a few minutes, that delay might have kept you from being in a car accident.
Living and sailing on a boat is full of little frustrations that continually change your plans—a weather window that closes, equipment that needs repair, or an anchorage that's too rolly. But embracing the Burnt Toast Theory helps us see these setbacks as part of the journey rather than obstacles to it. She's not just a boat; she's our home who makes our dream of exploring the world by water possible.
